Terms of Use

Effective date: October 15, 2026 · RootsCamp is a project of GAIN Power. These policies apply to all websites, apps and toolkits operated by GAIN Power, LLC and Global GAIN.

1. Who we are and what these Terms cover

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the websites, web applications, tools, toolkits, trainings, newsletters and other online services (the "Services") operated by GAIN Power, LLC ("GAIN Power") or Global GAIN ("Global GAIN"), together with their projects, including GAINpower.org, GlobalGAIN.org, and any site that links to these Terms.

The "Operator" of a Service is the organization named in that Service's footer or "About" page. "We," "us" and "our" mean the Operator. GAIN Power and Global GAIN are separate organizations; each is responsible only for the Services it operates.

By using a Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Some Services have additional terms (for example, event registration, paid trainings or employer postings); those terms apply in addition to these.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, apply for opportunities or submit content, and at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to make a payment or donation. The Services are not directed to children under 13.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your login credentials confidential, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at amy@gainpower.org if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Break any law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights.
  • Post content that is false or misleading about yourself or others, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, or that discriminates on the basis of a protected characteristic.
  • Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation with a campaign, employer or organization.
  • Use the Services to send spam or unsolicited messages, or harvest contact information or other data from the Services (including through scraping, bots or automated tools) without our written permission.
  • Use job, candidate, member or contact data from the Services for any purpose other than the one it was shared for, including selling it or adding people to lists without their consent.
  • Interfere with, probe, overload or bypass the security of the Services, or upload malware.
  • Use AI features to generate unlawful, deceptive or harmful content, or to create content that impersonates real people or misleads voters.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of what you submit, such as profiles, résumés, comments, survey responses and uploads ("Your Content"). You give the Operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display and process Your Content as needed to provide and improve the Services and as you direct (for example, sharing your application with an employer). This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for copies kept in backups, as required by law, or already shared at your direction.

You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not violate these Terms. We may remove content that we believe violates these Terms or the law.

6. Our content and toolkits

The Services, including text, curricula, trainings, toolkits, templates, graphics, logos, software and the names GAIN Power, Global GAIN, GAINiverse and Democracy University, are owned by the Operator or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws.

Unless a specific resource says otherwise, you may view, download and use our toolkits and templates for your own personal, educational, campaign or nonprofit work. You may not resell them, republish them as your own, or remove attribution. Ask us at amy@gainpower.org for other permissions.

7. Jobs, career services and opportunities

Job postings, employer information and candidate profiles come from third parties. We do not verify every posting or profile, are not a party to any employment relationship, and do not guarantee any job, interview, placement or outcome. Employers and recruiters are responsible for complying with employment, anti-discrimination and labor laws. Career advice and training content is general guidance, not legal, financial or professional advice.

8. AI-powered features

Some Services use artificial intelligence. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or outdated, and you are responsible for reviewing it before you rely on it or publish it. Do not enter confidential information, other people's personal information without permission, or sensitive information you would not want processed by our service providers. How we handle AI inputs is described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Donations, purchases and payments

Payments are processed by third-party processors subject to their own terms. Prices and fees are shown at checkout.

  • Global GAIN is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations to Global GAIN are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law, and we will provide a receipt.
  • GAIN Power is a limited liability company. Payments to GAIN Power are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
  • Donations are generally non-refundable. For paid trainings, events or memberships, the refund terms shown at purchase apply; otherwise contact us within 14 days and we will consider requests in good faith.
  • Recurring payments continue until you cancel through your account or by contacting us.

10. Communications

By giving us your email address or phone number, you agree that we may contact you about the Services and, if you opt in, about news, events, opportunities and appeals. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time, and reply STOP to end text messages. We may still send transactional messages such as receipts and account notices.

11. Third-party links and services

The Services may link to or integrate third-party websites, platforms and tools. We are not responsible for their content, policies or practices, and your use of them is at your own risk.

12. Nonpartisan and political content

Views expressed by trainers, speakers, contributors or users are their own. Unless clearly stated, the Services do not endorse any candidate. Global GAIN does not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office.

13. Disclaimers

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE.

14. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER GAIN POWER, GLOBAL GAIN, NOR THEIR MEMBERS, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS OR PARTNERS WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID THE OPERATOR IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

15. Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify the Operator against claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from Your Content, your misuse of the Services, or your violation of these Terms or the law.

16. Termination

You may stop using the Services at any time and may delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue a Service. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 5, 6, 13–15 and 17) survive termination.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and you and the Operator consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at amy@gainpower.org and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with a new effective date and, for material changes, give notice by email or on the Services. Continuing to use the Services after changes take effect means you accept them.

19. General

If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours to an affiliated GAINiverse organization or a successor. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and any Service-specific terms, are the entire agreement between you and the Operator about the Services.
